Our workforce must keep pace with our own success. We used to have people in search of jobs; now we have jobs in search of people, with 60,000 available positions throughout South Carolina.
To meet these needs, I have proposed a series of workforce development initiatives to get more South Carolinians pursuing opportunity and make us even more attractive to industry. Specifically, my plan would:
- Incentivize businesses to participate with local high schools in apprenticeship programs.
- Increase workforce scholarships and grants at our technical colleges for qualifying students.
- Expand workforce-training opportunities for inmates who have completed their sentences and are re-entering the community, lowering recidivism and crime.
