McMaster-Evette Campaign Calls on Joe Cunningham to Swiftly Release
Tax Returns

September 15, 2022

COLUMBIA, SC — Governor Henry McMaster on Thursday released tax
returns to members of the media. Release of these returns keeps up the
tradition of the governor, and major party candidates for the state’s highest
office, showing voters what they do for a living and how they support their
families. The governor previously released tax returns dating all the way back
to 2000 – an unprecedented level of transparency.

In the wake of the governor’s release, the McMaster-Evette campaign called on
Joe Cunningham to swiftly release his tax returns for each year dating back to
his initial announcement for public office in 2017. Cunningham owes it to voters
to detail for them what he has done for a living before and after serving one
term as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Voters deserve to know who pays candidates for governor and what they pay
them for,” said McMaster-Evette campaign manager Mark Knoop. “From what
most people can tell, Joe Cunningham’s only job for a number of years now has
been as a full-time political candidate.”

“Joe Cunningham has said he will release his tax returns as soon as they are
ready. In order to demonstrate to voters precisely who pays him, Joe
Cunningham should quickly release tax returns and the actual sources of his
income so he can prove to the people of South Carolina that he has no conflicts
of interest when it comes to the things he advocates for as a candidate and
what, precisely, he is being paid to do in any professional capacity,” said
Knoop.
